Your missing the point entirely. FFXIII was hailed as one of PS3's big hitters, along side Metal Gear. The game will not only sell like crazy, but sell a lot of consoles. This is great for Sony, who are behind in sales because of entering the next generation later, and because of Microsoft having big hitters by now. The mass market, who want to buy FFXIII, will buy a 360 over a PS3, assuming they haven't got one. The majority who buy the game won't be a big JRPG fan, nor will they care about VS. They will want the game, on a cheaper console, with generally better games. I readily admit, FF fans and JRPG fans will buy the PS3 anyway, but the majority will get it on 360. This will become apparent when it's released and the first weeks sales data is released. From a pure sales point of view, the 360 will beat the PS3 here. It will AT LEAST stall the PS3, you can't argue that. It won't kill it, as I've said, but how anyone can say the PS3 will still beat the 360 on sales this gen are either seeing into the future or insane. This isn't about which console is better, which version will be better, or any form of opinion. It is fact/common sense, that the 360 version will sell better. FFXIII may win on the PS3 in terms of sales from a global standpoint, but not a US standpoint. Japan's support of the 360 is still at an all-time low, while the PS3 really isn't doing bad at all there. Since Final Fantasy is the biggest gaming franchise in Japan (which cannot be denied, because it's the country's biggest selling franchise in terms of revenue per game in the series), and since the people of Japan have always played the game on Sony's consoles, people will be buying the PS3 version. In the US, different story entirely. People who have both a PS3 and 360 (probably about 1% of gamers) will buy the PS3 version because of consistentency, and because they know what they're getting in to. But people will NOT buy a 360 solely for FFXIII. The fanbase is too different. However, because the 360 already has more units out there, you take the fact that probably about 85-90% of all PS3 owners will get the game, and that maybe 55-65% of all 360 owners get the game, and the 360 still has it won. I think it'll be very close in worldwide sales, but in US sales, 360 version will blow it out, and in Japan, PS3 version will blow it out even more. The FFXIII Versus thing, though, will probably be a big deal to some people in the US, and could sway SOME (but not many) to the PS3 side, but probably not enough to shift numbers all that much.

"FFXIII may win on the PS3 in terms of sales from a global standpoint"
That's all that matters really. PS3 could still win in terms of US sales. Like I said, FFXIII is still 1-2 years away from a US release. Who knows where the sales for the PS3/360 could go in that time period.
"However, because the 360 already has more units out there, you take the fact that probably about 85-90% of all PS3 owners will get the game, and that maybe 55-65% of all 360 owners get the game, and the 360 still has it won."
That would only work with the current PS/XB sales numbers. No one knows where the PS3/360 will be in 2 years, and if you think you do, that's crazy. Same with FFXIII supposedly selling more on 360. It very well COULD and I'm not denying that in any way, shape, or form..but to say you know what the market will be like in 1-2 years is pretty far out there.

Lets keep this to the US and Europe, because we all know the 360 is dead in Japan, it was as soon as it released, and the fact that FFXIII isn't even going to be released on it there makes it all the more pointless.
Granted, the PS3 will be doing better by the time of release, but only because there are less people who will want a 360. Those that want a 360 will already have one by the end of the year, with only a handful compared to the PS3 picking up the console after that.
This is a big blow for Sony whichever way you look at it, it's no different to Microsoft losing Halo or Gears.

So? Just because it isn't fair that the 360 never had a chance in Japan doesn't mean you can just single out the JPN sales of FFXIII (PS3 only).
The PS3 version of FFXIII is still coming out there and will probably sell 500k-2mil when it's released.
It's going to be a big blow to the PS3 because now it's not a system seller..but just another AMAZING third party title coming to the PS3. That's all. It isn't going to stall the PS3, as it's been outselling the 360 without much availible.
The 360 had Gears, H3, etc. and still couldn't outsell the PS3 this year. Sony's conference showed that their first party/second party studios have a lot coming that will really make a big difference between the PS3/360.
You can get FFXIII on both the PS3+360, but you can't get Gears 2, H3, Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon or Banjo on the PS3. You can't get Ratchet, Uncharted, White Knight Story, Eternal Sonata Complete, FFvXIII etc on 360.
The 1st/2nd party games will make the difference this gen, IMO. No third-party game is going to kill/stall anyone.
Yes, I know 2-3 of the PS3 games are third party..but you get the point, right? That's all that matters.

But how does it's success in Japan affect what happens in the west, which is what we were originally talking about? People aren't going to rush out and buy PS3's over 360's because the Japanese are.
Everyone knew the PS3 would catch up and outsell the 360 eventually. The 360 had a head start, with less people buying it now. The PS3 is relatively new and people still want it. It'd be the other way round had they been released in a different order. Halo 3 and Gears didn't come out this year, I think you'll find the release of Halo 3 and Gears saw the 360 outsell the PS3 in a huge way, at least it did in the UK. It made the news, something the PS3 is yet to do with an exclusive.
Yes, the PS3 has some quality first and third party games heading its way, but are they going to sell as many as the 360's? I doubt it, Gears 2 will outsell Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, because it's a stupidly overhyped brand, much like Halo.
This isn't about which is better, it's about which is more commercially pleasing to the mass market, and that's where the 360 is currently leading.
